This is a hybrid of reality movie and art film to me. It has minimal dialogue and an unspectacular beginning. The movie does not intend to dazzle you with special effects or fanciful tricks. It is more like a “read my body language, feel my anguish” kinda show.

Love Program

There are three main parts.

Part 1, First being a young and jaded prostitute having sexual intercourse with a customer in his car.

Part 2, Second being the young and nervous cadet’s attempt to lose his virginity in the red light district.

Part 3, And third, the innocent but obedient child of a prostitute being forced to be a part of the bedroom scene by the mother’s customer and alongside with it, the mother’s silent anguish at the situation.

In Part 1, I quickly realized that the actress was my friend, Jeszlene Devon Zhou. We have lost touch for a while but she has always been passionate about acting and I was pleased to see her dreams coming to fruition.

I feel the blow job scene when the customer was still driving was rather hysterical. In real life, wouldn’t that be a serious road hazard to other road drivers and to those inside the vehicle? The jaded prostitute in an interesting twist paid a good looking lad, a busker for a song that never happened in the end.

In Part 2, the cadet was understandably torn apart about wanting to have sex for the first time without appearing to be too zealous about it. The classic young men’s rite of passage. And being impressionable and feeling vulnerable, he very quickly became amorous about the prostitute who made his mission a success.

In Part 3, The young lady found a harmless stalker who was so intrigued with her that he waited outside the hotel room where she was forced to service her mother’s abusive customer. The ironic part was when he eventually ended up having a meal with the mother and daughter only to see a heart wrenching tear jerking scene between the two thanks to the young busker.

The common thread between the three scenes was the conclusion they all shared. Strangers finding solace in each other’s arms or the reconciliation of strained family relations. Plenty of smoking, melancholy thoughts, imagery of sexual acts real or revisited in the mind and jaded bravery in facing reality.

Love Program

It ended as mundanely as it had started. Still, there were a few moments of gem for me. It is a passable film if you can stand its almost monotonous pace. However, if you enjoy art films or movies where the greatest pleasures are derived from interpreting the nuances of every little details you will find this particular one a delight.

The show that is taking the movie theaters by storm now. I remembered watching Sex And The City two years ago in Melbourne. I was alone on my usual ” I need to get out!” trip. I chanced upon the hotel library and was absolutely thrilled to see the four magic words in some boxes hidden at the corner.

I have always watched to watch Sex And The City. It was one of those things that “I never got round to it” for me. Excited, I basically spent the next two nights replacing beauty sleep with crazy episodes of women talking, whining and making love to men.

I was completely hooked! And I spent my day tours on the coach, blissfully asleep. Haha! I can never forget. And of course like the rest of the world (most of it I think), I can’t wait for the movie to arrive! I am very amused to learn that even men loved it.

Women love it because we can relate to the experiences of the four leading actresses, in particular their pain. But I still cannot comprehend what is the attraction for men.

And it was quite amusing to me to be able to discuss the details of the drama serial with men and they could contribute intelligently and with a fair amount of content and opinion I must say! What a crazy world!
